Yesterday's Silent Hill Transmission stream was a real treat for horror fans. It offered a glossy new trailer and heaps of information on the upcoming Silent Hill f. This title first piqued interest back in October 2022, alongside the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill Townfall. Now, much more is known about what to expect.
A Journey into 1960s Japanese Horror
Silent Hill f is pushing the series in a new direction. It transports players to 1960s Japan. The story unfolds in Ebisugaoka, a mountain town in the countryside appearing ordinary on the surface. Shimizu Hinako, a high school student living an ordinary life, is introduced. This changes when ominous fog starts to creep in. This is not run-of-the-mill fog. It is a shifting mist that distorts Hinako's familiar world into a desolate and haunting landscape.
Imagine a town sucked of its life force, shrouded in sinister fog, with an unseen menace lurking. That is the world Hinako must navigate. She will confront ghostly apparitions from her past, puzzling conundrums, and terrifying creatures. All this is in a desperate bid to survive. The game assures impossible choices and a downward spiral into horror. Hinako searches for the line between beauty and madness in the oppressive fog.

NeoBards Entertainment handles development duties on Silent Hill f. They have prior experience with support work on titles like Resident Evil: Resistance and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Ryukishi07 is penning the spooky script. He is famous for mind-bending visual novels like Higurashi When They Cry and Umineko When They Cry. Ryukishi07 declared deep affection for the series. He stated determination to craft a tale faithful to the spirit of Silent Hill in this new Japanese setting.
kera, the illustrator and monster designer, completes the creative vision and is responsible for the game's unique appearance. Akira Yamaoka once again lends his hand to the creation of the Fog World's terrifying sound design. Kensuke Inage (of Armored Core VI and Tekken 8 renown) accompanies Yamaoka. He will be composing the ominous soundtrack of the Otherworld, with a double layer of audio horror.
