Sony and People Can Fly Reportedly Team Up for "Project Delta"
Sony is a gaming goliath with its phenomenal stable of in-house studios and franchise blockbusters. But even for a goliath like Sony, apparently there's always room to welcome more talent to the family. Recent reports suggest they're doing just that, recruiting the services of a studio with a pedigree of fast-paced action: People Can Fly.
The Painkiller Pedigree Joins PlayStation
Leaked reports going around the web indicate a potential collaboration. People Can Fly, the Polish video game developer known for their off-the-wall shooters like Bulletstorm and the recent sci-fi RPG Outriders, seems to have signed an agreement with a "powerful corporation". All signs point to the corporation being Sony.
The game, coded as "Project Delta" currently, is extremely classified. Leaks suggest it'll be made on the client's intellectual property – Sony in this instance. That means we're not seeing some new Sony IP from People Can Fly. Instead, PCF is providing their development expertise to construct on an existing Sony franchise. This is interesting.
Sony Code Game, People Can Fly Capability
Most notably, the agreement seems to indicate that Sony will have outright ownership of the game and its intellectual property. People Can Fly's role, as significant as it is, is that of a development partner. They are bringing their action-game knowledge to the table. This would not be unusual. Sony tends to collaborate with external studios in order to strengthen their game development pipeline.
It's also fascinating to note that People Can Fly is in the midst of being heavily involved in another big project currently: Gears of War: E-Day. They're also working with The Coalition, which has been the main studio behind the recent Gears of War games, on this highly anticipated prequel. So, PCF is definitely pulling some heavy weights.
What Could "Project Delta" Be
The big question, naturally, is: what is Project Delta? Is Sony snapping up People Can Fly to bring life to an underloved franchise? Or do they seek to bring some of PCF's high-octane action to a new corner of the PlayStation universe? For now, it is rumor and conjecture. But this one thing is certain: the possibility of Sony IP merged with People Can Fly action-game DNA is something to watch.
