Ampler Nova E-Bike: USB-C Charging Arrives for Unprecedented Convenience

Estonian bike maker Ampler just launched something awfully cool: the Nova e-bike. Its special feature is a first. This is the first e-bike we have come across that can be charged via USB-C. Yes, USB-C. Finally, an e-bike discarding the clunky, specialized charger.

USB-C Charging: A Real Game-Changer for E-Bikes

Most e-bikes come with their own separate charger. Leave it behind, and you are stuck. The Ampler Nova has an integrated USB Type-C port on the frame. In theory, you can use your laptop charger, your phone charger, or any standard USB-C power delivery (PD) charger that gives at least 100 watts. This is convenience personified, especially if you are a traveler on the go.

Ampler describes that using a 140W Power Delivery 3.1 charger, you can replenish the 336Wh battery from zero to full in roughly 3 hours. This is not bad for a decent-sized e-bike battery.

Nova and Nova Pro: Two Models to Choose From

Ampler is offering the Nova in two configurations, allowing you to choose your ride:

  • Ampler Nova (Standard): It has standard 27.5-inch tires. These are perfect for city roads and bike paths.
  • Ampler Nova Pro: The Pro version is one level up. It comes equipped with a super-smooth and maintenance-friendly Gates Carbon belt drive with a single gear. This is for those who enjoy simplicity and quiet rides.

Both models use the same 250W motor, in compliance with European e-bike regulations. They will assist you up to 25 km/h (around 15.5 mph). This is perfect for cruising around the city.

Availability and Pre-Orders in Europe

If you are in the UK, EU, or Switzerland, you can pre-order the Nova and Nova Pro models now. Ampler expects to start shipping in June. A standard two-year warranty is also included.

The Future of E-bike Charging?

Is this the start of a trend? Will we be seeing more e-bikes include USB-C charging? It makes a lot of sense for user convenience. Ampler might be onto something very big with the Nova.
