Eidos Montreal Announces Layoffs Amidst Industry Challenges

Eidos Montreal has faced a difficult period recently. Many players remember their acclaimed work on 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution. However, the studio behind it has encountered rough headwinds since then. Games such as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy did not meet their publisher's hoped-for sales figures. The Embracer Group’s cancellation of a new Deus Ex project further added to these difficulties.

Unfortunately, the series of negative news continues. The Canadian studio recently announced a tough decision. They are letting go of 75 employees.

In their release, Eidos Montreal stated these reductions in force are connected to the completion of one of their projects. They clarified that this move was not a reflection on the skills or work ethic of the departing team members. Instead, they cited an inability to relocate all of them onto other existing projects within the studio.

The comment lacks complete clarity. It remains uncertain if the project these team members were working on concluded as planned, or if its development was abruptly halted. Regardless of the specific details, the result is the departure of experienced members from the team.

Eidos Montreal expressed their belief in the staff who lost jobs in these cuts as they transition to new opportunities. Currently, the studio is also developing the anticipated new Fable game.
