Ghost of Yotei Release Date Announced: Yotei Six Hunt Begins October 2nd
Get ready to return to feudal Japan, but this time the trip is one of vengeance! Sucker Punch has finally lifted the veil on the release date for their highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, titled Ghost of Yotei. Mark your calendars, because the quest begins on October 2nd, 2025, coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.
Along with the release date reveal, a whole new trailer was released, providing us with our best glimpse yet of the main villains: the powerful Yotei Six. These are the individuals our new hero, Atsu, has vowed to hunt down and kill. The trailer's visuals appear absolutely breathtaking, with a discernible jump from the already gorgeous Ghost of Tsushima.
Meet Atsu and Her Revenge
So, who is Atsu, and why is she after these outlaws? The story flashes back sixteen years in the region of Ezo (now Hokkaido). The Yotei Six committed an unforgivable act, slaughtering Atsu's family and leaving her for dead by a burning ginkgo tree. But she survived. Years pass, and she has mastered her art, returning with a list and the very same katana from that doomed attack, ready to make them suffer. The members of the Yotei Six are known as The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and the leader, Lord Saito. Although vengeance fuels her initial pursuit, Atsu's journey through the wide open lands of Ezo will see her form unlikely friendships and discover a higher purpose.
Gameplay: Freedom in a Dangerous World
Ghost of Yotei is promising an exciting open-world experience. Players will have the freedom to track down the members of the Yotei Six in any order they choose. Exploration of the Ezo world is a key feature, with players free to roam and even camp to find shelter at night. Sucker Punch has stated they aim to make the open world less repetitive than some in its predecessor, which will be good news for fans.

Andrew Goldfarb at Sucker Punch stated that the team has worked hard to make Ghost of Yotei special and a "worthy follow-up" to Jin's story despite the narratives not being connected. This would be an indicator that they are committed to keeping the quality and integrity fans loved.
Although premiering on PS5 this October, whispers of a PC port and even TV/movie spin-offs suggest Sucker Punch has high hopes for this franchise moving forward, with a cross-platform release down the line a likelihood, maybe sometime around 2027.
The wait is almost over! Ghost of Yotei looks to be a visceral and visually stunning experience, ready to draw us into a chilling tale of revenge and exploration on October 2nd.
