Nintendo Switch 2: AAA Avalanche Incoming
Remember the original Nintendo Switch launch It was amazing for handheld play. Some big, blockbuster games felt like a squeeze. Things are changing in a big way with the upcoming Switch 2. It sounds like Nintendo's next console is packing serious power, and publishers are taking notice.
Compromises? Forget About Them
We are talking a full-on rush of AAA games hitting Nintendo. In a recent "Switch 2 Direct" (which is building huge hype), the number of announcements of major games was staggering. It is clear that big publishers who had to wait on the sidelines previously are now diving headlong into the pool of Switch 2.
Leading the charge, get ready for:
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Cloud, Tifa, and the whole crew – on a Nintendo console, day one
- Cyberpunk 2077: Night City on the go. Prepare for a handheld cyberpunk experience unlike anything ever witnessed.
These are launch titles. Consider booting up your brand new Switch 2 and going straight into these massive worlds.
But That's Not All. The List Goes On
The list of confirmed games is incredible. We are talking:
- Elden Ring
- Split Fiction
- EA Sports FC and Madden NFL
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3+4
- Hitman World of Assassination (plus IO Interactive’s James Bond game)
- Yakuza 0
- Borderlands 4
- Street Fighter 6
- Civilization 7
- WWE and NBA 2K
That is likely just scratching the surface. Plus, indie darlings like Hades 2, Silksong, and Deltarune chapters 3 & 4 are also on board.
A Game Changer for Nintendo
This is a huge difference from the period of the original Switch launch. Publishers were wary then, unsure of whether Nintendo could recapture its magic following the Wii U. Titles like Doom and The Witcher 3 were incredible but came later in the Switch's life, and the gap to AAA power only increased.
The Switch 2 seems to have closed that gap. Publishers are not just dipping their toes in the water – they are taking the plunge. Is it possibly the massive success of the original Switch (over 150 million units sold) that has convinced them? Whatever the reason, it is fantastic news for gamers.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Optimized for Switch 2
For the Nintendo fans themselves, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is getting a special Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. This edition will include:
- New Control Option: Joy-Con mouse functionality – intriguing for aiming and exploration.
- Graphics Modes: Choose between Quality (4K/60fps docked, 1080p/60fps handheld, both with HDR) and Performance (1080p/120fps docked, 720p/120fps handheld, both with HDR).
We already received a stunning trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond that showed us the planet Viewros and Samus' newfound abilities. It has been years since it was originally announced back in 2017, but it looks like it will be worth the wait.
In the meantime, do not forget about Metroid Prime Remastered – a great chance to replay the classic in gorgeous detail.
