NVIDIA RTX 50 SUPER Rumors: More VRAM on the Horizon
The world of graphics cards is always filled with speculation. The latest ones direct attention towards NVIDIA possibly getting ready to introduce "SUPER" models into their GeForce RTX 50 series family. You remember the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070. If speculation is accurate, then we might soon be seeing improved versions as part of the family.
What the Rumor Says
According to threads seen on the Chiphell forums, NVIDIA is working on at least two new models: perhaps the GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER and the RTX 5070 SUPER. This is after the initial RTX 50 series launch experienced some speed bumps with issues like availability.
Taking a look at the Memory
While solid info remains relatively thin on the ground, perhaps most notably is the rumored memory bump. The RTX 5080 SUPER would purportedly use an enormous amount of VRAM -- 24GB -- while the RTX 5070 SUPER might sport up to 18GB. They are supposedly going to leverage new GDDR7 memory tech, which likely will arrive in modules of 3GB in a similar vein that we have for some top-shelf mobile or pro graphics chips.
Think about it: for the 5080, that's an enormous leap over the reported 16GB on the non-SUPER version. The 5070 would also be increased by a significant margin from its rumored 12GB. That's a 50% jump in memory for both. That would be an actual game-changer for certain applications.
Performance Expectations and Potential Uses
Curiously, the same rumor source is hypothesizing that raw gaming performance will not be radically different from the baseline RTX 50 models. This might temper expectations of a huge speed boost, but the added VRAM is where the real value lies.
More memory is very beneficial for workloads that use VRAM, like AI inference and handling super-high-res textures in games. While 24GB on a 5080 might be excessive for *just* gaming right now, it certainly keeps the door open for future games and non-gaming applications. For the RTX 5070 SUPER with 18GB, that could make it a much more viable choice for silky-smooth gaming at 1440p and even potentially 4K resolutions, depending on the title.
Challenges Ahead
NVIDIA is going to need to get the availability right if these SUPER models are going to be able to have a tangible impact. This is especially true given how the rollout reportedly went initially. Price remains the other giant wild card, with regards to worldwide tariffs as well as rising component costs.
When Could We See Them
The rumor states these new models aren't imminent. It's actually more likely they'll stick to the usual "SUPER" refresh timeline. This could mean potentially showing up a year following the RTX 50 series launch. Perhaps Computex 2025 would bring more tidings, but we'll see.
For now, these are interesting rumors. More VRAM is always welcome, especially for heavy-duty tasks. We'll be keeping an eye out to see what else happens as things progress.
