Who Leads the PC Market: IDC Reports Q1 2025 Shipments
Ever wonder which computer makers are selling the most lately The folks at IDC, a trusted market research outfit, just released their report reviewing the first quarter of 2025. They crunched the numbers and laid out which companies shipped the most PCs during that timeframe, giving us a look at the market leaders.
A Look at Q1 2025 Shipments
Based on IDC's research, the worldwide PC market experienced a total of 63.2 million computers being shipped in the first quarter of 2025. That is a huge figure, and interestingly enough to observe how the various players stacked up.
The Top Players: Ranking the Brands
As for who moved the most units, Lenovo was at the front, with healthy performance and year-over-year growth compared to the same quarter last year. Below are the top brands ranked by shipment:
Brand | Shipments (Millions) | Market Share (%) | Year-over-Year Growth (%) |
---|---|---|---|
Lenovo | 15.2 | 24.1 | +10.8 |
HP | 12.8 | 20.2 | +6.1 |
Dell | 9.6 | 15.1 | +3.0 |
Apple | 5.5 | 8.7 | +14.1 |
ASUS | 4.0 | 6.3 | +11.1 |
Other | 16.2 | 25.6 | -3.6 |
You can see here that Lenovo was at the top, but Apple and ASUS enjoyed particularly healthy percentage growth compared to early 2024.
What Powered the Market in Q1
IDC analysts mentioned a couple of potential reasons that might have affected the first-quarter performance in the market. One of them is that concerns that there might be price increases on electronics, perhaps due to new trade policies being discussed in America, might have prompted some of the buyers to buy earlier rather than later.
Another major contributor most likely came from the business segment. With support for Windows 10 ending later this year (in October), businesses are active replacing older machines to upgrade to newer operating systems and hardware. This business refresh cycle most likely helped significantly in shipment volumes.
Looking Ahead: The Forecast
While the initial quarter witnessed healthy growth for the majority of brands, experts are of the view that demand could ease in the next few months. Supply chains currently look fine, but there is no reason to exclude the possibility of computer retail prices starting to creep upwards. Always best to keep a watch on the market if you have a purchase in the pipeline.
