Rumored Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Ultra-Thin Design and Potential Early Launch
Hot rumors have been circulating about the rumored new addition to the upcoming Galaxy S25 lineup: the rumored Galaxy S25 Edge. The device is claimed to be the thinnest Galaxy S smartphone ever, and if rumors hold true, we may be getting to see it sooner than expected!
According to some reports, Samsung might be planning a special event as soon as next month, i.e., May 13th, to launch this ultra-thin smartphone. If it does so, it would mean that Samsung is considering the S25 Edge a significant new form factor.
An Exclusive Launch. For Now?
Here's the catch: early release of the Galaxy S25 Edge can be limited. Reports say that Samsung is only targeting three markets with this extremely thin phone at first: South Korea, the United States, and China. This could be how Samsung is dipping its toes in the water and gauging consumer demand before any broad release.
What Can We Expect from the S25 Edge?
Though official news is yet to come out (remember that this is rumor-based!), here's a sneak preview of what the Galaxy S25 Edge has in store:
- Blissfully Thin Design: This is the buzzword, with its thickness pegged between an eye-watering 5.8mm and 6.4mm.
- Display: A 6.7-inch screen, purportedly the same as the standard Galaxy S25 Plus.
- Processor Power: It should be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, as in the other high-end S25 models.
- Camera Setup: To keep that wafer-thin design, there's a trade-off. It's said to have a 200MP primary wide-angle camera but not a dedicated telephoto camera, instead having two cameras on the back compared to three or four on the Ultra models.
- Pricing: Putting it between the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra. Korean rumors put it at about 1.5 million KRW (~$1,090 USD) for the 256GB version and 1.63 million KRW (~$1,185 USD) for the 512GB version.
Samsung reportedly produced only 40,000 units in its first production run, which once again indicates that this is a carefully thought-out, perhaps trial, launch into the market.
Timing is Everything
Releasing possibly sometime in May, with initial availability in Korea and China possibly sometime in May 23rd and then in the US (possibly around May 30th?), can be a business move for Samsung. It appears they can attempt to pre-empt some competitor rumors regarding ultrathin versions as well.
Pre-orders could start as soon as the news is made, maybe during May 14th to May 20th, and reservations can go right up to the release date. Samsung might even offer a double storage pre-order deal, though apparently there will not be a special color exclusive to Samsung.com for this device.
They are all going to be looking at this potential new member of the Galaxy clan. If the Galaxy S25 Edge is a hit in its initial markets, Samsung can step up production and even extend its reach. It's certainly an intriguing development for the flagship smartphone market.
