Sloclap Announces Rematch: Action Multiplayer Soccer After Sifu
Remember Sifu. That ultra-difficult, ultra-stylish kung fu game that was on everybody's lips. Well, the clever people at Sloclap, the developer behind it, have just announced their latest title. And here's the kicker – it's a soccer game.
Rematch: Not Your Average Soccer Simulator
Hold on, don't picture your standard, hyper-realistic football sim a la EA Sports FC. Nope, Rematch is not that. It's an action multiplayer game entirely focused on kicking the ball around in a different way. Less tactics, more insane, out-of-control fun.
The concept is straightforward enough: it's a 5 vs 5 match where teams try to score. Except here's the twist – you only control one player on the field. That completely changes the dynamic, and it ends up playing a lot more like an action game with tons of pace, maybe even closer in terms of spirit to something like Rocket League than soccer sims.
Starting with a Bang: Huge Beta Success
It seems this fresh take on the sport is getting people excited. Shortly after the beta test went live on Steam, the game saw a massive influx of players over the weekend – we're talking 120,000 people jumping in to take it for a spin. That's a very solid turnout for a new, non-traditional sports title.
What's Next
Keep in mind this was just a test run. The official launch of Rematch is on June 19th. When it releases, you won't just be able to find it on PC via Steam; it's also launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
It's exciting to see a studio associated with a single genre taking such a drastic risk. With Sloclap's track record with Sifu, it'll be intriguing to see how Rematch shapes up and makes a name for itself in the online multiplayer landscape.
