Sony Xperia 1 VII Rumors Emerge: Design Tweaks and Camera Focus

The rumor mill is turning. The first rumors (or better said, renders) of the Sony Xperia 1 VII have arrived. Details about Sony's new headphones were recent news. Now, the spotlight shifts to their phone division with leaked renders. These announce what could be the new-gen Xperia flagship. Let us take a sneak peek at what these early shots tell us.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Render: Subtle Design Tweaks and a Familiar Feel

If you were hoping for a breakaway from the Xperia 1 VI, these renders certainly suggest otherwise. On the surface, the Xperia 1 VII has that familiar Sony Xperia look. Scratch a little beneath the surface, however, and there are a few discrete changes to be observed. Speculation points towards a phone which is slightly shorter, but only slightly wider than previously. It's the kind of incremental change that Sony is all too famous for.

One of the more obvious changes appears to be around the camera module. The renders indicate a thicker camera housing. This suggests perhaps some serious heavy-duty upgrades in the optics department. This camera bump appears to protrude slightly further out. This suggests more advanced sensor technology within.

Familiar Features Return

Die-hard Xperia fans, rejoice. Most of the fan-favorite features appear to be coming back. The 3.5mm headphone jack, a rarity these days, shows up and is included. The dedicated camera shutter button, a tradition of Xperia phones for photographers, makes its comeback as well. And the fingerprint reader on the side handy to reach with the index finger coming from the side is also back. Even the tool-less SIM card tray returns. This suggests Sony's attention to user-friendly specifics.

And yes, those legendary front-facing stereo speakers are present, tucked away in the top and bottom bezels. Sony obviously isn't succumbing to the bezel-less audio quality trend here.

Under the Hood and Launch Whispers

While the renders concentrate on the outside, rumors are already rampant about what's under the hood. The rumored powerhouse is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. This promises best-in-class performance. Camera rumor has it that we might receive a 70-200mm periscope telephoto lens thrown into the mix. This would be a significant zoom upgrade. And those mysterious sensors on the top of the periscope lens in the leaks? They certainly pique our curiosity. Might they have something to do with better autofocus or other advanced camera capabilities?

The rumors that have been emerging lately indicate the launch as soon as next month. That could see an estimated starting price of around $1,399 in the US. All said and done based on rumors and leaks, obviously. These renders do present the interesting first sight, though, of what may be waiting with the Xperia 1 VII at Sony. Expect more soon.
