Tempest Rising Launched Accidentally a Week Prematurely

Strategy game enthusiasts have been looking forward to would-be new hits, and one that's truly caused waves in recent times is Tempest Rising. Touted as a spiritual successor to all-time great Command & Conquer, it was certainly at the top of many wishlists. But in a delightful surprise twist, the game came out a week early – and it wasn't planned!

An Early Launch by Mistake

The date of the official release of this real-time strategy game was to be April 24th. But, much to everyone's surprise, the game was already available to be played by players on April 17th. Was this some special favor by the developers, Slipgate Ironworks As it turned out, no. It was merely an accident – only access for players who had purchased the Deluxe version of the game was supposed to be granted.

Publishers Say 'Our Bad, But Go Play!'

The game's publishers, 3D Realms and Knights Peak, were not slow to act. They publicly announced that the first public access was their fault and apologized for the unusual situation. But the good thing is: instead of trying to close access off or figure out who was supposed to gain entry, they just went along with it!

"Since it did happen," they essentially meant, "let everyone enjoy the plan!" Which means you having pre-ordered the Standard or Extended Version, or simply buying it after the 17th, you would have been able to play from the beginning.

Deluxe Owners Aren't Forgotten

And what about the players who *did* buy the Deluxe edition and already should have had early access The devs haven't forgotten them. In lieu of apology for the misunderstanding, Slipgate Ironworks will be creating some exclusive content for players of the Deluxe edition. Details on what this extra content will be remain to be announced.

Early Reactions Are Positive

For those who are interested in the game itself, the early reaction has been extremely positive. Game critics seem to be largely in agreement that Slipgate Ironworks has developed an RTS that is welcoming to both long-time Command & Conquer fans and newcomers to the strategy genre. And it seems that regular players are actually having a great time with the game so far.
