The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered's Massive Launch
It seems millions of gamers were waiting to experience that again. Last week, Bethesda Softworks brought back a classic with the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
While the initial game was perhaps its own amount of debate between fans, there is no doubting it holds a place in numerous hearts. And honestly, Bethesda hit this return out of the ballpark. With not even a massive marketing campaign, the journey back to the Imperial Province became quite the event.
Millions Already Traveled Cyrodiil
Bethesda showed some truly impressive figures shortly after launch. Four million explorers had already toured the remastered world of Oblivion between April 22nd and April 26th. That is a huge number in so short a time.
Of course, it's worth noting that having the remaster on Game Pass certainly helped to balloon those numbers somewhat, as it made it extremely easy for subscribers to dive in. But even accounting for that, four million players in less than a week is a testament to the game's enduring popularity.
Bethesda themselves were clearly delighted with the response, going out of their way to thank players: "We are incredibly grateful to the more than four million players who have already explored Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered. Thank you."
More than just the overall number, the game has been sustaining a solid, stable player base since launch. We've been hovering around 170,000 to 200,000 users online at the same time for nearly a full week now. That level of consistent engagement speaks volumes about how much folks are loving being back.
What's great is that people are having so much fun with the re-release that even a partially buggy patch (which supposedly messed up some of the upscaling options) hasn't managed to put a damper on their fun. Looks like the call of Cyrodiil is strong enough to get players to overlook minor technical faults.
In all, the launch of Oblivion Remastered has been a massive success, and it's a wonderful reminder why this classic RPG is still so beloved. If you haven't gone back to it yet, then maybe it's time to answer the call of Cyrodiil.
