New Naming Convention

Recent rumors and leaks have suggested different branding possibilities for AMD's RDNA 4 lineup, set to be unveiled at CES 2025 with a retail release in early 2025. Instead of the traditional XX00 naming, AMD is reportedly switching to an X0X0 format. Therefore, the successors to the Radeon RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT might be labeled the 9070 XT and 9080 XT, respectively.

This new naming convention aligns with NVIDIA's GeForce lineup, like the RTX 4070 and the upcoming RTX 5070. The larger numbers are likely intended to be more appealing from a marketing perspective, similar to AMD's decision with their Ryzen AI 300 series processors.

Navi 48 Performance

The AMD Navi 48 GPU, expected to power the RX 9070 XT, is rumored to offer performance comparable to the RTX 4080 in rasterization and be 45% faster than the 7900 XTX in ray tracing, while consuming less power. These cards are aimed at the mainstream segment but will likely compete with the RTX 5070 in price, around $500.

The new naming also fits with the branding of the AMD Strix Halo iGPU which goes up to Radeon RX 8060S which uses a different 3.5 Architecture.
